Playing Roms on a Nintendo DS Guide by elektronichouse.com

A step-by-step article on how to play NDS ROMS on Your Nintendo DS

Instructions

1. Buy an R4 DS cartridge off Amazon, eBay, or wherever you want. They can cost around £25- £40. Make sure you get one that comes with a memory card and CD.

2. Once you have got it insert the CD into the computer and follow the instructions. If by any means you don't have the CD don't worry it is easy to setup. Once you have loaded the CD and followed the on screen instructions you are ready to go.

3. Insert your small memory card into the USB, their should be a slot at the top. The Micro SD Sandisk should be like a small Sandisk or Kingston. The higher the gig the more games, movies or music you can put on. Insert the Usb into your computer.

4. Open the folder, should be removable disk. If you have installed the CD then their should be 2 files called 'Moonshell' and 'System'. If you have not got these then go onto google and search for them. I am not sure what the website is called but it is quite easy to find. Once found download the files and only put the system and moon shell file on your USB. The system file is definitely required.

  • In the system folder on your USB create a folder and name it 'games', this is where you will save your games.
  • Now you are ready to download games but first you need to download 'WINRAR'. This is needed to extract your games so that they will work on your R4i 3DS. Its a brilliant application. To get this search Google for it and just find the link then download.
  • To download games search Google and NDS ROMS for other great websites. This is a great website and easy to use. On the website go to download roms or search and find the one you want, once found you will have to enter a codeto download the game, don't worry it is nothing serious. Now it should come up with where you want to save it. Save it in an appropriate place. The game should now be downloading.
  • Now the game is downloaded find the file and right click it, if Winrar is installed you should see the option to extract. Click on that and choose the location you want to play it. In this case it will be on your USB, save it to their in your games section. It will now say extracting. Once that is done remove your USB and stick the small memory stick into your R4 at the top. insert into your ds and you are ready to go.
  • Find the games file by clicking on the smiley face and then going into the games file and choose the game you want to play. HAPPY GAMING.
5. Before even putting the game in, download WinRar. After downloading, download the game you want for your R4. Save it on your destop because it is easy to spot unless you have a messy destop. Make a new folder and name it after the game. Open up the folder so long with the game's Winrar. A pop up should appear after opening the WinRar but just click close. You should be able to see books stacked on top of each other. They should have the same names but different numbers. If you see it, your on the right track still. If not, I'll explain later. Anyway, click your mouse from the top (not the folder inside the WinRar but the 1st Winrar, you know what I mean?), drag it down to the last WinRar and the LAST. Drag all the Winrar into the new folder your created named after your game. Select all of the WinRar that means all of the WinRar are in blue (click mouse in the new folder and drag until all WinRar is selected). Right click and that should give you different options. Click "Extract Here". Let it finish loading. To let you know, some games will have an error while extracting but don't get pissed off if it doesn't work. I'm sure there is an another one that will work from a different website. Anyway, after extracting, click your mouse on the "Start" (bottom left corner of screen) and you should see "My computer". Click it and you should get a "My Computer File" You should see a name called "Removable Disk", just one unless you have other usb on. Double click the Removable Disk and

6. It didn't have enough space to put it all together so I had to do it seperate.(Part 2 of "Before even puttin in") Make a file called "Games" in your removable disk, this would allow you to go in the folder from your ds. After double clicking on "Games", on the destop, drag your folder inside and let it transfer. After complete, go in the folder and delete the WinRar because it is a waste of room. The folder should only have the game file. Safely eject the usb out and put the microchip inside the R4, put on the ds and turn on. On the ds, press A on the fist square on the left, you should see the "Games" folder. Press A, you should see the new game file you put in, press A on it. Press A on the new game and it should have a pop up saying something like "This game file does not have a save file, do you want to make one"in different languages. Press A which automatically makes one. And start playing!
